20 INSANE Horror Sequels We Almost Got
8. House of Re-Animator
The cult fave Re-Animator series has spawned three films to date, with the most recent being 2003's Beyond Re-Animator, after which original director Stuart Gordon planned to return to the franchise with House of Re-Animator.
The sequel was set to star William H. Macy as a George W. Bush-esque President who dies in office, prompting the White House to make contact with Dr. Herbert West (Jeffrey Combs) to bring the POTUS back to the land of the living.
The off-the-wall hilarity of the concept speaks for itself, especially as the film was originally expected to be produced while Bush was still in office, but this was ultimately also the reason that it never got made.
Basically, there were concerns about invoking the ire of the Bush administration, and by the time it finally looked like the stars had aligned for House of Re-Animator to happen, Bush had left the White House, making it all feel way too late to the joke.
Though Gordon sadly passed away in 2020, the whole House of Re-Animator concept feels like it'd work just fine in the current American political climate.
