Cannes 2015: 10 Potentially Incredible Films In Competition

5. The Sea Of Trees

Any readers who may have followed Vice documentaries in recent years will no doubt be familiar with the "Suicide Forest", where many people have wandered into to take their own lives in seclusion, away from the bustling cities of Japan. Gus Van Sant has chosen to take this real life location as the inspiration for his latest movie, which stars Matthew McConaughey as an American man who travels to Japan to end his own life amongst the Sea Of Trees. Ken Watanabe stars as the Japanese man he meets there, also intent on ending his own life. McConaughey has well and truly broken away from his rom-com days now and with Van Sant at the helm there's a good chance this will be yet another feather in his cap. Whether Van Sant continues in the "slow cinema" vein of Gerry and Elephant remains to be seen. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7EvlAmCr_14
