Captain America: Civil War - Every Character Ranked From Worst To Best

12. Black Widow

Looking at the lay of the land before Civil War, you would have bet your house on Black Widow being the most conflicted character over the Accords. She's an underground figure personified thanks to her backstory, but she also knows the cost of innocent lives for exactly the same reason. Plus, she has the spectre of Hulk hanging over her, which would have further fed that conflict.

In reality, Black Widow is a little pushed to the sidelines like War Machine. In contrast to Rhodey though, she operates as both Cap and Iron Man's Jiminy Cricket, asking both if they're sure they're doing the right thing. And even if she's officially on Cap's team, she's more pertinently Team On The Fence.

Her combat performance is typically brilliant - particularly the RKO and Hurricanrana she flawlessly executes in the opening sequence - and there's lots of promise for an increasingly needed Black Widow stand-alone. And even though the end of her Civil War arc was painfully obvious, if her going underground makes that solo film more likely, it's a sin we should all happily accept.
