Cats 2019: Every Song Ranked From Least To Most Horrifying
11. Memory
This scene was a lot better than it looked in the trailer, and was impactful enough and emotional enough to be ranked one of the film's better songs. Jennifer Hudson is an amazing singer, and even the horror of a wrongheaded adaptation full of CGI cats couldn't change that. She sings her heart out in this scene, even if her involvement in the story overall seems just a little tacked on - though to be fair, it's not that much better in the original musical, so they at least get points for accuracy.
All in all, Memory is about as dramatic and full of gravitas as this film gets. It's somewhat undercut by the infamous snot-line (more on that later) on Jennifer Hudson's face, but it still gets you where it needs you to go.
It's a beautiful enough scene, and the VFX isn't even as wonky as it looked in the abhorrent trailer. Does it make sense for everyone to suddenly stop hating Grizabella because she sang a good song?
Well, it makes more sense than the rest of this film.
