3. The New Chucky Design Isn't Great

Child S Play
United Artists

The single biggest inherent problem with the new Child's Play is that the Chucky (Mark Hamill) re-design isn't very appealing.

The original Good Guy doll actually looked like a toy children would want to play with, and its friendly, inviting face made its eventual murderous antics that much more amusing.

The Buddi doll featured in the new movie looks quite hideous and cheaply thrown together from the outset, unaided by some unconvincing CGI used to accentuate Chuck's facial expressions throughout the film.

The original Chucky design still looks great over 30 years later and the effects work has aged spectacularly well, but one suspects nobody will be saying the same about this one.

Given that getting the look of Chucky right is so integral to the overall experience, it's a shame they went in this direction.
