Comic Con 2018: 10 Things We Wanted Announced (But Weren't)

7. Hellboy

Another upcoming film that was strangely absent from this year's Con is Neil Marshall's Hellboy reboot.

Currently slated for release in January of 2019, the film is mere months away from release yet Lionsgate opted to do absolutely nothing for it at Comic-Con. Considering it is not only based on a beloved comic book property but is also a reboot of an already beloved franchise, this is very strange.

Comic-Con would have been the perfect place for Lionsgate and Dark Horse to earn the fans' love. Rebooting any franchise is tricky, but rebooting an unfinished action fantasy franchise from genre legend and Academy Award-winner Guillermo del Toro means this film has some gargantuan, monster-sized shoes to fill. But bringing fan-favorite director Neil Marshall, who's done wonderful work on projects such as The Descent, Hannibal, and Westworld, or fan-favorite actor David Harbor, of Stranger Things fame, to roll even some B-roll footage would have gone a long way.

Instead, there was continued radio silence. Which is made all the more disconcerting by the fact that Lionsgate released a promotional image of Harbor as Hellboy months ago but has still yet to release even a teaser trailer. This does not instill optimism in the project, which is why a panel at Comic-Con could have worked wonders for the film.
