Comic Con 2018: 10 Things We Wanted Announced (But Weren't)
3. World War Z 2
The history of World War Z franchise remains one of the more curious cases in all of modern blockbuster filmmaking.
The first film, released in 2013, had its fair share of behind-the-scenes troubles, with late-in-the-game reshoots that involved completely throwing out an entire expensive third-act battle sequence, but it was an overwhelming success at the box-office. Almost immediately, a sequel was announced and then subsequently sat on a shelf for years. Originally, the sequel had director J.A. Bayona attached to it but he wound up leaving after a few years of stasis to make Jurassic Park: Fallen Kingdom.
As Brad Pitt sought out a new director to take on the sequel, he wound up recruiting an old friend and collaborator who also just-so-happens one of the most talented directors working today; David Fincher. After months spent deal-making with Paramount, Fincher officially signed on months ago and there has still been little-to-no movement on the project.
Comic-Con would have been a perfect place for Paramount to set some things in stone such as an official release date or to even simply trot Fincher out and show glimpses at concept art. Instead, the project remains where it has been for five years now; gathering dust on a shelf.
