Daddy's Home 2 Review: 3 Ups & 6 Downs
2. It Should've Been R-Rated
A common complaint about the first film was that it should've been rated-R, as the PG-13 certification meant that it restricted Wahlberg and Ferrell, two actors who typically thrive in the R-rated arena, from really going for broke.
This is even more apparent in the sequel, which features Mel freaking Gibson of all people, where constricting him with a kid-friendly rating just feels all sorts of wrong.
Now, nobody was seriously expecting this film to actually get an R rating, especially after the original made almost $250 million worldwide, but it absolutely would've been all the better for it.
Instead, you'll have to settle for the mildly nastier Unrated home video edition, as happened with the first film.
