Daddy's Home 2 Review: 3 Ups & 6 Downs
3. The Horrendous Cinematography
Just like most big-budget studio comedies, Daddy's Home 2 is an incredibly ugly film to look at. Just like the recent A Bad Moms Christmas, almost every scene is brutally overlit to the point that it looks like a low-budget TV show.
While you can argue that comedies don't need to be as visual as, say, Justice League, it's a shame that directors and cinematographers keep putting so little effort into making these movies look good.
Most of Seth Rogen's comedies prove that the genre can boast legitimately strong cinematography, so it's infuriating to see a film that cost $69 million (that's over $20 million less than Arrival's budget) look so damn rough. It's just laziness, pure and simple.
