DC Extended Universe: 10 Post-Justice League Predictions

6. Batgirl Will Be Shot By The Joker

Many iconic moments from the Batman comics are yet to make it to cinema, and high on the list is the Joker crippling Barbara Gordon by shooting her through the spine

This was a harrowing point in DC history, which paved the way for Batgirl to become Oracle until the New 52 reboot rehabilitated her via experimental surgery.

Joss Whedon is on board to write and direct a Batgirl film for Warner, and there's a strong chance Jared Leto's Joker - presuming the role isn't recast by then - will make an appearance in a reenactment of this famous scene from The Killing Joke.

Restoring Oracle's mobility in the comics is a move which drew criticism, not least because she had become an icon for the disabled community, but there are ways it could be brought to cinema in a positive way.

Having Barbara seriously injured by the Joker and undergoing rigorous rehabilitation as part of her origin story would position her as a character who has overcome adversity and is stronger for it, not unlike Cyborg.

The DECU takes many of its cues from DC's New 52 universe, which is where Batgirl regained her mobility, so there's a good chance fans will see her iconic meeting with the Joker before she takes on the Bat mantel post-recovery.
