Prior to the release of Justice League, the reaction to Henry Cavill's Superman from test screening audiences was extremely positive, according to that Revenge Of The Fans report we just linked to.

As a result, the studio hoped to carry this wave of positivity all the way to the film's release, and then into January 2018, where they'd officially announce a sequel to Man Of Steel.

But then Justice League came out and the reaction was decidedly mixed, which has apparently impacted the announcement.

That's not to say Man Of Steel 2 has been abandoned - and Revenge Of The Fans seems very confident that a release date and director will be announced soon - but it has been stalled, and there is a chance the studio decides not to move forward with it.
