Comic book movies don't do kids very well usually and the younger X-Men recruits and school attendees have never been particularly memorable beyond Rogue in the original series. But Julian Dennison's Russell is a whole universe above what's come before.

He's funny, intelligent and emotionally mature and the decision to make him such a key part in the story proves to be inspired. Crucially, his progression from angry victim through to being on the cusp of turning into something truly nefarious is completely believable.

Him coming back for a sequel is a great possibility too as Dennison's chemistry with Ryan Reynolds was one of the best parts of the sequel.
