Disney+: 10 Original Movies We Want To See

The turn of the 21st Century was not a great time for animated movies. As well as Titan AE, we saw The Prince Of Egypt, The Road To El Dorado, Dinosaur, Treasure Planet, Atlantis and the wonderfully titled Help! I’m A Fish. There were some great ones in there too, like The Emperor’s New Groove or Monsters, Inc., but in general it was definitely a lull for the genre.

Computer animation was becoming simpler, cartoons (aided by the breakthrough of adult animation like The Simpsons) offered a wider audience, and everyone wanted a piece of the pie. Unfortunately, due to some subpar offerings and audience apathy in the face of so many options, many of these movies flopped.

Most people have either forgotten about Titan AE, if they ever knew it existed at all.

If you aren’t aware of it, just think Jupiter Ascending. It’s an ambitious sci fi movie that runs before it can walk, sacrifices plot for set pieces and hopes an A-list cast (swap Channing Tatum/Mila Kunis for Matt Damon/Drew Barrymore) can cover up cracks. However, there’s something decent at the heart of it; now that Disney owns Fox’s animated properties they may have another crack at it.
