Doctor Strange 2: 8 Ways It Could Change The MCU Forever

5. ...Or Closing It For Good

Time to play devil's advocate here. While it would obviously be huge if the multiverse was a big threat throughout Phase Four, it would also be significant if Doctor Strange 2 closed the book on this story for good.

The multiverse was fun in Spider-Man: No Way Home - and it will undoubtedly be fun in Doctor Strange 2 - but can it really be sustained for a full slate of movies and TV shows? And won't it start to feel gimmick-y? Plus, looking ahead, everything we know about movies like Black Panther 2, Captain Marvel 2, and Guardians Of The Galaxy 3 doesn't seem to indicate that they'll employ a multiverse story.

Also, here's something else to consider: Spider-Man: No Way Home writers Chris McKenna and Erik Sommers recently revealed that their initial drafts of the script took place after Doctor Strange 2. So what if Doctor Strange 2 ends with that normal, multiverse-free reality we see at the start of No Way Home?

Again, closing the book on the multiverse here would be a significant move. Not only would it be a massive surprise, but it would also mean that we don't yet know what the true threat of Phase Four is. If not Kang/the multiverse... then what are the Avengers going to be punching in their inevitable fifth movie?

It's an intriguing question - and here's one tantalising possibility...
