Doctor Strange: 31 Easter Eggs & References You Must See
19. The Eye Of Agamotto
The Eye Of Agamotto is a massive part of the lore of Doctor Strange, but the backstory of how it came into Strange's hands is different in the film, though the end-goal is the same. In the comics, the Eye was placed into the care of Eternity until a sorceror could successfully reach him as a trial of worthiness.
From there though the stories converge, in both cases the Eye was used as a means to defeat Dormammu.
The design remains pretty similar to the comics, albeit with the addition of the Seal Of The Vishanti over the top of the eye. It's important that it retained that fundamental design though as Steve Ditko had drawn inspiration from the real world charm The All Seeing Eye of the Buddha. It too was used to protect its wearer against evil.
