Doctor Strange In The Multiverse Of Madness: 10 HUGE Missed Opportunities

6. There Was No Tony Stark

There is one missed Variant opportunity that stands above the rest for a couple of reasons, first and foremost because it was so heavily rumoured in the build-up to the movie. Why was there no Variant of Tony Stark?

With Iron Man dead in the 616 universe, and with Robert Downey Jr. seemingly happy to put the role in his rearview mirror, the only chance we will have at more Tony Stark is through the multiverse, and the Illuminati would have been the perfect place to bring him in.

Whether he would have ultimately been played by Tom Cruise or not, this opportunity would have lent itself to some incredible interactions between Strange and an other-worldly facial hair bro. It almost feels as though the movie went out of its way not to include Tony.

The Illuminati of universe 838 used Ultron Sentries as guards essentially, and since this was very definitely Tony Stark’s tech, he was at least in some way affiliated with the team. He didn’t sacrifice himself to defeat Thanos on this timeline, so where was he? Who could have possibly taken exception with more Tony Stark in the MCU?
