Doctor Strange In The Multiverse Of Madness: 10 HUGE Missed Opportunities
5. There Was No Family Reunion
Over the years, there have been some very awkward characters rights issues that have prevented Marvel Studios from portraying certain characters perhaps in the exact way they would want to. Wanda Maximoff is a perfect example.
Thanks to Magneto, and all of the mutants’ rights being with Fox for so long, there was no way to reference the Scarlet Witch’s father from the comics, or even utter the M word at all. This of course has all changed now, but still, we have no sign of Wanda’s real father.
There would have been no need to actually retcon the family backstory given to Wanda in WandaVision, Marvel Studios simply could have used an Erik Lehnsherr from a universe in which he was Wanda’s father. If they were going to bring in Professor X, why not his bestie/rival Magneto?
A little interaction here could have fuelled Wanda even further into the path of villainy, potentially seeing how she and her mutant brethren had been treated across the multiverse. This could have given her all the more reason to want America’s power, while FINALLY being able to share the screen with Sir Ian McKellen and kick start a proper House of M adaptation.
