Each Sacha Baron Cohen Character Ranked Worst To Best

4. Nobby

Borat Sacha Baron Cohen
Columbia Pictures

Grimsby - much like The Dictator - was generally decent. The film had some great moments, but did suffer often from an over-reliance on gross-out humour.

However, creating a likeable protagonist was something that Sacha Baron Cohen achieved in this case. Nobby as a character is charming, and - his obsession with guns aside - actually seems like a good decent person showing empathy and compassion. This makes the film and the character all the better.

There is a tendency when dealing with working-class character to lay firmly into stereotype and poking fun at the lower classes. Whilst the film does this a lot, it never really comes across at the expense of the cast. One aspect that it makes clear is how happy Nobby is with his life. The depiction of a working-class man genuinely loving the life he lives is uncommon, and it should be appreciated for spelling a narrative of being content with a non-luxurious lifestyle.

Ultimately Nobby falls flat in places. Some of the jokes are too on the nose and whilst being slightly controversial, Nobby isn't particularly original. There are many characters from shows like Little Britain that work the same concept. Cohen is known for his truly unique characters, so this one being so cliché is a little disappointing.

It is, however, still great fun to see them poke fun at Noel Gallagher.
