Thanks to the time that has now passed since Joel Schumacher made camp Batman projects toxic, there has been something of a revival in appreciation for the kitsch silliness of 1960s Batman, and this latest addition to the DC Animated features slate treads fondly into the waters of homage.

It is an absolutely nailed on tribute to the camp, colourful excesses of the show, a giddy and gratifying exercise in nostalgia that should hopefully further draw focus to Adam West's jaw-droppingly odd show. And it's so much more than just a living museum piece - even without the weight of nostalgia, it is lovingly entertaining and a beautifully observed contradiction of what superhero movies have become for the most part. And more than anything, it's fun in a way that modern grit-honed fanboys can't use against it.

Rather wonderfully, there's a sequel coming next year with William Shatner voicing Two Face.
