Every 2016 Comic Book Movie Ranked Worst To Best
5. X-Men: Apocalypse
X-Men: Apocalypse has a lot of detractors, and even more people who seem intent on proclaiming it the death of the franchise (before an inevitable rebirth, of course), but it is a genuinely great spectacle that absolutely does not deserve to be as heavily criticised as it is.
Sure, Apocalypse is hammy and Oscar Isaac is a little wasted under the make-up, but he is the kind of camp, theatrical villain this franchise needed. It couldn't just be another look at Magneto's attempts to insist on mutant superiority. And there are some brilliant stand-out moments - especially Quicksilver's slo-mo rescue of the X-mansion's students.
What seems to have happened is the world of comic book movie fans have changed irrevocably after Man Of Steel, and too many want every superheroic act (or every grand scale extermination event, in this case) explored in terms of accountability as Superman was in Dawn Of Justice and the Avengers were in Civil War. Not everything has to be about bureaucracy and regulation, and as soon as you drop those sort of hang-ups, the really enjoyably spirit of Apocalypse shines through.
