Every 2020 Movie That Could Make A Billion Dollars

The first MCU release of 2020, Black Widow will be a prequel set between Civil War and Infinity War, during which time Nat embarks on her own standalone adventure.

Like with The Eternals, the Marvel stamp alone will propel Black Widow to some big numbers, but the added benefit it has is that the title character is much more popular and recognisable, making the billion-dollar club a safer - though not guaranteed - bet.

To date, Black Widow has featured in five billion-dollar pictures, with Captain America: The Winter Soldier her only appearance to fall short. She wasn't the sole reason those movies were such big financial successes, but this does mean that a billion dollars-worth of people have seen the character in action on numerous occasions, a level of exposure that can only help.

Something else that might help: an assist from another Avenger. Recently, a rumour popped up that Tony Stark was due to make a cameo in the film, and if this is true, it'll give the movie an extra pop that will cut through the box-office like butter.

Clever marketing could be another factor. If Disney doesn't sell it as a prequel, they could fool casual audiences into thinking Nat has come back from the dead somehow, which would get even more butts in seats out of sheer curiosity - just look at the effect that the "dead characters returning" shtick had on Endgame's box-office tally.
