Kit Harrington was brought into the MCU as Dane Whitman for Eternals, and was promised to be in something of a love triangle with Ikaris and Sersi, though this wasn’t exactly true. The Game of Thrones legend only appeared for a short time at the beginning and at the end of the movie, missing the bulk of the action.

However, the name of Dane Whitman, whose alter ego is the Black Knight in the comics, promised a much bigger role in the franchise moving forward; something that was solidified by the Eternals post-credit scene.

After his family was alluded to several times throughout the movie, Dane was looking upon a sword passed down to him, seemingly alive with some sort of dark energy. This was the Ebony Blade, the character’s chief weapon in the source material, but as he reached out to it he was interrupted by a mysterious voice.

The person unseen asked if Mr. Whitman was sure he was ready for this. The voice was later confirmed by director Chloé Zhao to be that of Mahershala Ali, making this Blade’s first dealings in the MCU. As if he needed any help with excitement and anticipation, his apparent partnership with the Black Knight has only got fans wanting to see the Vampire Hunter’s Marvel Studios movie even sooner.
