Every American Pie Movie Ranked Worst To Best
7. American Pie Presents: Band Camp
Seeing an entire movie dedicated to the iconic band camp was promising. Still, this spin-off movie started the trend of ruining the American Pie series' name by focusing too much on the juvenile humour rather than relatable characters. It did a better job than Book of Love, but that isn't saying much.
Band Camp's narrative follows Matt Stifler, the younger brother of Steve Stifler. This character had appeared in the first two movies, so he was a somewhat familiar tie to the series. After sabotaging the school band in an ill-conceived prank, he's sent to Band Camp as a punishment and tries to make a 'Bandeez Gone Wild' porn video.
The biggest issue with the direct-to-DVD flick is its leading figure. While Stifler was a hilarious addition to the original series, he worked because he was only a supporting character and somewhat of an antagonist. Seeing someone with the same traits and behaviour in a leading role is difficult to watch, as his misogynistic/abrasive antics make him impossible to root for.
The film felt like such a downgrade, not only regarding budget and plot but also humour. It lacked nuance and relied too heavily on the American Pie name rather than making something unique.
