Every Christopher Nolan Movie Ranked Worst To Best
1. Dunkirk (2017)
Dunkirk is the greatest masterpiece of Christopher Nolan's career. Not only is it a galvanising and tragically informative war movie, but it's also the director's most divinely crafted piece of cinema. For two hours, he wastes not a single frame, and holds your heart in a vice grip with every one.
With surgical precision, the war drama unfolds the events of Operation Dynamo (where British and French soldiers were evacuated from Dunkirk in 1940) with the pace of a great procedural, moving between its ensemble characters as they scramble for freedom and find peace in their rescue.
The crowning achievement of Nolan's pre-occupation with atmospheric sound design, heroism and epic practical effects, Dunkirk may be his least character-driven experiment, but it remains his most meaningful and assured. He's never felt so in command behind the camera, and his images have never carried such hope.
In a career that has spanned almost 30 years, Dunkirk is Christopher Nolan's greatest film, and will be a tough one to conquer going forward. Wherever he goes next, though, he'll be sure to give it his all.
