Every Coen Brothers Movie Ranked Worst To Best
6. Barton Fink (1991)
The Coen Brothers are no strangers to taking shots at Hollywood and the movie making industry as a whole, using their own role in the machine to conjure up some darkly funny and witty characters, situations and storylines.
Barton Fink, released just a year after Miller's Crossing, shows the filmmakers in full control of their signature style and unique themes, bringing audiences the story of Barton Fink (John Turturro), a playwright who finds himself at odds with the way of Hollywood when hired to write the script for a movie.
Written during the admittedly hard production of Miller's Crossing, Barton Fink shows two men venting about the hardships of making films, but doing so with reserve and maturity. With Barton Fink, the pair have crafted a wonderfully cynical, humorous character study, brought to vibrant life by the comedic stylings of Turturro (never better than he is here), John Goodman and the late John Mahoney.
Barton Fink is pure joy to watch even after all these years, and is quintessential viewing not just for fans of the Coen Brothers, but for anyone with an interest in cinema as a whole.
