The film that many watched mainly for Jason Momoa, Aquaman actually turned out to be a solid superhero story.
Based on the origins of Arthur Curry, Mera (Amber Heard) approaches Curry to take his rightful place as King of Atlantis. This leads to conflicts with King Orm (Patrick Wilson) and Black Manta (Yahya Abdul-Mateen II), as Curry goes on to claim the Trident of Atlan in order to take his rightful place at the throne and to stop Orm from invading the surface world.
The 2018 blockbuster is an action filled affair, full of CGI battles and underwater warfare. Momoa is excellent in the titular role, while Wilson and Mateen are brilliant as the villains of the film. However, the action sequences are somewhat underwhelming and the CGI sometimes becomes a bit too much.
