Every DCEU Film Ranked From Worst To Best

6. Birds Of Prey

Birds Of Prey Margot Robbie
Warner Bros.

Birds of Prey is deeply flawed, but it's also pretty awesome in many ways.

Cathy Yan's visually stylish direction is genuinely fantastic, the action sequences are tremendous and the cast is uniformly terrific (although Mary Elizabeth Winstead is underused). Margot Robbie is sublime as Harley Quinn, but it's actually Ewan McGregor, who gives a masterful villainous performance as the sadistic Black Mask (arguably his best screen work since Trainspotting), that steals the entire film.

It's also the DCEU's first R-rated film and while this was risky, it mostly paid off. The film can be quite ugly, but the adult vibe does lend it a nice, brutal punch all the same.

Messy as it is, Birds of Prey is overall a thoroughly entertaining and charismatic superhero flick that largely delivers the goods. It seems to have faced some backlash online but that isn't a fair reflection of the film (and said "backlash" was mostly driven by the film being female-led anyhow).
