Every DCEU Film Ranked From Worst To Best
5. Aquaman
Aquaman was one hell of a pleasant surprise. It might be formulaic, predictable and overlong but this movie does actually have quite a bit going for it.
The film is absolutely mesmerising on a technical level; James Wan's direction is legitimately brilliant, the underwater environments are beautifully realised and the film also has some terrific music (bar that dreadful Pitbull cover of Toto's 'Africa', of course).
As well as this, the movie benefits from a largely strong cast, especially Jason Momoa as the title character, although Willem Dafoe is wasted and Patrick Wilson is a little dull as the main villain.
As for the screenplay, while it's got its issues it does still make for a heart-warming story about Aquaman becoming a hero and learning to believe in himself. The world-building is very assured and the central romance is actually good, which is rare for a superhero film.
Flaws and all, Aquaman is very enjoyable and it's not surprising that this rejuvenated the DCEU.
