Every Disney Animated Movie Since 2000 - Ranked

17. Dinosaur

One of Disney's early adventures in computer generated imagery, Dinosaur looks like more of a cinematic artefact watching it today, its blend of CGI characters with live-action backgrounds giving it a noticeably dated look compared to the latest in Hollywood movie spectacle.

At the time of its release Dinosaur was lauded as a breakthrough in cinematic visuals, although criticisms of its weak plot and less than engaging characters holds true as well today as they did in 2000. As Disney story-lines go this is standard fare, the herd of dinosaurs escaping a meteor shower and searching for a new home to call their own lacking in the chemistry of other similar protagonists, for instance in films like Ice Age.

Disney's decision to adopt a photo-realistic look (no doubt to show off their animation technology, but also a reason why it has aged more than other CG animated films of the era) strips Dinosaur of some of its heart. If they'd stuck to the original plan to make it darker and more violent it could have stood the test of time far more effectively.
