Every Evil Dead Movie Ranked Worst To Best
1. Evil Dead 2 (1987)
Evil Dead 2 captures everything that made the previous film brilliant but irons out some of the kinks. It also brings comedy into the forefront in a way that the franchise would adopt wholeheartedly, making this easily the most well-balanced between horror and comedy the series has ever produced.
The sequel re-explores the first film by focusing on Ash and his girlfriend Linda as they go on a short vacation to a remote cabin. Linda is possessed after Ash listens to a recording of The Book of the Dead, and away we go. The film, again, doesn't bother with set-up or character-building; it just gets right into the nitty gritty. From there, it's a non-stop thrill ride full of violence, charming stop-motion VFX, and hilarity.
This is also the movie that birthed the Ash Williams fans know and love. While Bruce Campbell's character certainly shined in the first film, it was this flick that turned him into the raving, wild, and captivating madman he would become. Overall, Evil Dead 2 launched the series into even greater cult-classic status.
It's got the horror, the violence, the comedy, and Ash. The film is the purest form of Evil Dead's best elements.
