Every Friday The 13th Film Ranked From Worst To Best

7. Freddy Vs Jason

Friday The 13th
New Line Cinema

It might not have landed in cinemas until 15 years after Paramount initially tried to make it, and a full decade after it was teased by the final shot of Jason Goes To Hell, but 2003's Freddy Vs Jason proved to be a hugely enjoyable revival of both the Friday the 13th and Nightmare on Elm Street franchises. Even so, if we approach it primarily from a Jason fan perspective, it's not hard to pick holes.

The whole set-up of the film seems biased toward Freddy; perhaps unsurprising, given it's a production of New Line Cinema, known affectionately as 'The House That Freddy Built.' It opens on a Nightmare series montage, takes place primarily in Freddy's town of Springwood, and sees Robert Englund's dream demon pulling the strings.

Worse yet, Freddy Vs Jason features a somewhat declawed Jason, presenting him as a more sympathetic character, with Freddy just the latest in a long line of bullies who have troubled him all his life (and beyond, it seems). It also declares that Jason is afraid of water due to having drowned as a child, despite this never having been the case in earlier Fridays; and, much to the annoyance of many fans, it dumps Kane Hodder, putting Ken Kirzinger behind the mask instead.

All that said, with upwards of 20 kills, this is one of Jason's bloodiest outings, and while it takes its time getting to the fight of the title, the wait is well worth it once the slasher titans do battle.
