Every George A Romero Movie Ranked Worst To Best
11. Diary Of The Dead
Three years after Land Of The Dead, Romero went back and rebooted his Living Dead universe with mixed results. On the one hand, it’s fun to watch the guy who started it all go back and show the Resident Evil crowd how it’s done, but on the other the movie doesn’t have much to say.
Diary takes Land Of The Dead’s tongue in cheek humour and runs with it, even throwing in (why not?) a deaf Amish zombie killer, so don’t expect too much of Romero’s usual apocalyptic vision. It’s interesting to see the 67-year old filmmaker’s take on the YouTube generation and don’t forget that in 2008 this kind of thing still hadn’t become a big fat boring cliché – The Walking Dead was still two years away.
Easter egg: Be sure to listen to the newscasters during the film and you’ll hear the voices of Simon Pegg, Quentin Tarantino and Stephen King, among others.
