Every James Bond Movie Pre-Credits Scene Ranked Worst To Best

4. The World Is Not Enough - The Thames Chase

James Bond Goldeneye Opening
MGM

The World is Not Enough, Pierce Brosnan's under-appreciated third Bond film, opens in absolutely incredible style with this mind-blowing chase down the River Thames - Bond pursues an assassin (Maria Grazia Cucinotta) who's just attacked MI6 using Q's modified, gadget-ridden speedboat.

Filled with awesome stunts, twists, hilarious visual gags and white knuckle action, this is one of the finest and most entertaining James Bond chase scenes to date. The World is Not Enough has always been a divisive instalment of the series, but it's unlikely many won't be won over by this opening regardless of what they think of the overall film.

It also ends very well. Bond tries to persuade the assassin to come into custody and says that he can protect her, but she replies "Not from him!" and kills herself, getting Bond injured too. This was a nice break from Bond ending such action sequences completely unscathed (although the film mostly ignores his injury, unfortunately) and this set up the threat of Renard (Robert Carlyle) very nicely.
