Every Leonardo DiCaprio Movie Ranked Worst To Best
5. Shutter Island (2010)
A common theme with many of DiCaprio's characters is their inability to accept their pasts or come to peace with their mistakes. Never has this been more clear than with his role as US Marshal Teddy Daniels in Scorsese's grim thriller Shutter Island.
Haunted by the death of his wife and children, Teddy travels to the eponymous island to look for an escaped mental patient, and in the process finds his mind unravelling. DiCaprio brings Teddy to life as a broken man with a clear goal, and slowly peels back the layers of his psyche to reveal a timebomb ready to explode.
Methodically plotted, Shutter Island is nasty and cruel, its portrayal of mourning and madness being sold at every turn by DiCaprio's steady descent into insanity. For the fourth film in a row, DiCaprio and Scorsese proved they were made for each other.
