Much like her fellow Guardian of the Galaxy turned Avenger, there wasn't a heroic bone in Nebula's body when she was first introduced to the MCU. Acting as a pawn for both Thanos and Ronan the Accuser, all she wanted was to make her adoptive father proud.

However, thanks to a childhood of being told she was the least favourite daughter, Nebula finally snapped and turned against her father. She managed to infiltrate his ship, and almost killed him, but was ultimately caught and tortured.

As painful as this backstory has been for Gamora's sister, it has helped shape who she is, and has brought her into the same circles as Earth's Mightiest Heroes. She is incredible tough, and durable, and is an expert in hand to hand to combat, something that she ironically has Thanos to thank for.

Just like Gamora, she was meticulously trained by the Mad Titan, and had a body part replaced with machinery every time she lost to improve her. At this point she is more robot than anything she used to be, and has actually become much stronger for it. She was literally pulled apart when Thanos wanted information on the Soul Stone, but was ultimately able to shake it off as if it was nothing.
