Every MCU Director Ranked Worst To Best
9. Joss Whedon
Directed:
The Avengers (2012) and Avengers: Age of Ultron (2015).
Joss Whedon differs from most MCU directors as he was sole writer and director of both the films he helmed for Marvel. Of course, Whedon is more of a screenwriter than a director and most of his previous directing work was in TV, which does show a little in both the Avengers films
Especially in the first Avengers film, the cinematography was somewhat TV movie-like at times and his direction wasn't massively memorable, but on the whole Whedon did a reasonably good job as director, although his incredible screenwriting work in the MCU was considerably more impressive. His direction in Avengers: Age of Ultron was better and more confident.
He did also have a knack of doing incredible long-take shots. He's responsible for three of the best shots in the entirety of the MCU: the spinning hero shot in The Avengers and two notable floating tracking shots which went from hero to hero during a battle, one during the Battle of New York and one during the Age of Ultron opening.
