Every Michael Bay Movie Ranked Worst To Best
4. The Island
Bay's last film before he took a stab at bringing a live-action Transformers series to life, The Island is a sci-fi thriller about a man (Ewan McGregor) and a woman (Scarlett Johansson) who live on an island, unable to leave because the world outside is apparently dead. After learning a shocking truth, the pair escape their former lives and head out in search for answers.
Really a film in two parts, The Island works regardless of the territory it's covering. Whilst the first half is a mysterious piece of science fiction building up some big reveal, the second half puts its foot down and turns into a remarkably exciting, action-packed thriller.
Both halves working off of each other very well, the whole thing is anchored by a committed performance from Ewan McGregor and a solid villain portrayal from Sean Bean.
Visually striking and constantly keeping audiences on their toes, The Island is Bay at his most focused and nuanced, and it really is a sight to behold.
