Every Star Trek Movie Villain Ranked From Worst To Best

2. Chang

Star Trek General Chang
Paramount Pictures

General Chang, as played by the late Christopher Plummer, is one of the finest additions to the Trek movie universe. His delivery of those Shakespearean speeches is second to none, giving the Klingon villain a legitimacy that is hard to find. He is both full of hate and humour, truly enjoying toying with Kirk while also trying his hardest to destabilize peace efforts in the Galaxy.

On-screen, he oozes charm while he sits in the officers' mess along with the rest of his party. He inadvertently quotes Hitler, giving the audience a clue as to his true intentions. He spends a lot of time speaking from Hamlet, with the famous beginning of the soliloquy forming his final words. Though he does what he does, in his mind, for the good of the Empire - there is very little honour in his actions.

The use of a Bird of Prey that can fire while cloaked could have tipped the balance of power in the Quadrant. An invisible Klingon fleet could have wrought devastation on the Federation and its allies, though thankfully only a single prototype was created. It is this ship that he uses to almost cripple the Enterprise-A and Kronos One, taking a perverse glee in his actions.

It is finally Uhura who is his undoing, suggesting targeting the energy waste emissions from his ship. McCoy and Spock rewire a torpedo, it is fired directly at his ship and Chang breathes deeply before asking To Be, Or Not To Be?
