Every Stephen King Movie Ranked Worst To Best
34. Needful Things (1993)
"Needful Things" remains one of King's craziest novels, the tale of a small town with underlying tension that quickly explodes into violence and moral decay when a charismatic shopkeeper rolls in and curses everyone with their wildest desires.
The film, to its credit, captures some of the novel's insanity, especially when it comes to Max von Sydow's gleefully twisted performance as a man who may or may not be the Devil. The rest of the film - from Ed Harris's embattled sheriff to its final showdown of good vs evil - could have done with more energy, mind; the horror falls drearily flat as the film progresses.
