Every Transformers Movie Ranked From Worst To Best

Bumblebee is effectively a reboot-prequel to the Bay movies, by imitating Bay's house style but blatantly contradicting many elements of those films while also establishing a more affable, family-friendly tone.

Under the assured direction of Travis Knight (Kubo and the Two Strings), Bumblebee manages to be both a sweet tale of friendship between Hailee Steinfeld's young protagonist and her new robot pal, and also a rock solid family drama.

The comparisons to E.T. are unavoidable, and though the film arguably leans a little too much on that, the gorgeous action sequences and compellingly-acted drama meshes together startlingly well.

This is exactly what the live-action Transformers movies should've been from the start: ditch the sexist/racist/cringe-worthy garbage, keep it simple and focus on emotion and smaller-scale set-pieces.

Fingers crossed the movie performs well at the box office, because if it does, it could save the Transformers franchise from returning to the juvenile tone set by the Bay films.
