22. Bad Boys For Life (2020)

King Richard
Sony Pictures Releasing

Dumping franchise creator Michael Bay for a more dramatic dive into the explosive lives of Detectives Lowery (Smith) and Burnett (Martin Lawrence), this long-awaited Bad Boys threequel is well-made and briefly fun, but ultimately falls flat.

The issue here isn't Smith or Lawrence, though, who are clearly having a great time working alongside each other again, but with the story, which adopts a silly family subplot that comes across as farcical rather than emotionally gratifying.

If there was one thing this series didn't need, it was increased stabs at hard-hitting drama, no matter how effective its stars are. Luckily, there's just enough riotous comedy to keep Bad Boys For Life moving, though not enough to entirely save it.
