Focus is an underrated gem in Will Smith's filmography, and even though it never quite figures out what it wants to be - is it a heist thriller, a romance, a comedy? Your guess is as good as mine - but what it ends up being is riotously entertaining.
Twisting and slick, the movie moves with a relentless energy that Smith effortlessly controls with his super-smooth portrayal of a conman who falls for Margot Robbie's deceptive female lead and finds his career fractured beyond repair.
It's amusing and gripping in equal measure, even if it threatens to go overboard on the twists, but the true standout here comes from Smith and Robbie's easy chemistry, which allows both actors to work off each other with compelling results.
