Every X-Men Movie Ranked From Worst To Best

8. X-Men: First Class

XMen Movies
Fox

Before anyone complains at how low Matthew Vaughn's reboot/timeline muddier ranks here, let me just qualify that the dearth in quality between The Last Stand and First Class might as well be an ocean.

Taking advantage of a great cast, Vaughn's youthful prequel has some brilliant ideas - like the Nazi hunting Magneto borrowed from X-Men Origins: Magneto - and the use of the Hellfire Club, led by a thoroughly unlikeable Kevin Bacon is pretty inspired.

Some of the costume designs are a little iffy though: Jennifer Lawrence's Mystique looks a little like a barbie doll dipped in melted crayons and Beast looks a little too much like an angry were-cat. And though she's cherished as one of Hollywood's leading lights at the minute, Lawrence's performance isn't all that great (nor is it in the follow up).

It's a good script, the finale is memorably great and the teaming up aspect is well handled, but First Class is just a little on the slow side compared to what followed.
