Fantastic Beasts 2: Everything You Need To Know
2. Grindelwald Won’t *Just* Be A Creep
Despite the fact he looked like a bumbling mess in the final scenes of Fantastic Beasts, it sounds like there will be a cooler, charismatic side to Johnny Depp's Grindelwald. "We were looking for someone who was seductive and could be charming and could be original," David Heyman told Collider last year.
Since there was nothing charming or seductive about Depp's debut in the role, it seems fair to assume there are facets to the character that haven't been revealed yet (despite the Revelio charm being used). Perhaps the lengthy period spent as Graves took a toll on Grindelwald, and that shaky weirdness was a side-effect of changing back, rather than his usual behaviour. Maybe he'll be back to his less creepy former self in Fantastic Beasts 2.
Heyman went on to add that it was an "irresistible" and "powerful" air that made Depp perfect for the role, and that Grindelwald's "ability to persuade the hearts and minds, to persuade people to follow him" is essential to the ongoing narrative of the franchise.
Exactly what that means, and how it will play out, remains to be seen.
