Fantastic Beasts And Where To Find Them: 8 Possible Harry Potter Cameos

7. Gellert Grindelwald

Having Dumbledore embark on his tour of the Wizarding world would be something every Potter fan would be super excited about seeing, although he never got the chance to do it in the books thanks to one Gellert Grindelwald. Every good film needs a good villain, and Grindelwald (1882-1998) fits the bill perfectly as far as Fantastic Beasts is concerned. He would have been 44-years-old by the time Newt€™s on-screen adventure begins in 1926, and in the height of his power. Tom Riddle wasn't the first Wizard to believe that his kind should rule over all other races - Grindelwald was certainly the Lord Voldemort of his day. After coming to Dumbledore's village to stay with relatives as a young man, Gellert soon befriended Albus, with J.K. Rowling later revealing that Dumbledore was actually falling in love with Grindelwald. Still sore about what happened to his sister and blinded by his feelings of affection, Albus became ensnared in Gellert€™s plans for worldwide Wizard domination. After an argument in the Dumbledore household led to Ariana Dumbledore being killed by a stray curse, Grindelward fled Britain and began a campaign of terror in Europe that rocked the Wizarding world. Newt will no doubt hear word of Grindelwald€™s dark dealings, and will perhaps even encounter the dangerous wizard, if not during the first film then most certainly at some stage in the trilogy.
