Fantastic Four Reboot Movie: 10 Reasons To Be Excited

9. It's Not Like The Old Fantastic Four

The 2005 Fantastic Four film and its 2007 sequel weren't unwatchable, but they are remarkably dated for movies which came out less than ten years ago. It's not just the poorly rendered special effects but the whole tone of the film which is off, especially the non-existent chemistry between Ioan Gruffudd's Mr Fantastic and Jessica Alba's Invisible Woman. The dull and repeated relationship crises are redeemed only by Michael Chiklis, who sells the clunky Thing suit with a committed and fun performance. It's like the rest of the cast and crew didn't want to acknowledge the comic book origins of their film and so threw out years of characterisation and storylines in favour of hitting the most basic beats: cosmic storm, Sue and Reed fall out, Johnny is kind of a dick, and Ben is conflicted. Thankfully, the new and much younger cast confirms that the reboot is taking a completely different direction.
