From Emily Rose to The Day The Earth Stood Still

Scott Derrickson to helm unnecessary remake!

day-earth-stood-still.jpg that a remake of the 1950's classic science fiction movie The Day The Earth Stood Still was in the works over at Fox for a release next year came completely out of the blue, and I was hoping it was just a bit of nonsense rumor that was floating about. Sadly that's not the case. Hollywood North Report are telling us that Scott Derrickson who helmed the visually nice and actually quite passable horror flick The Exorcism of Emily Rose has been hired to direct what is expected to be a modern remake, probably along the same lines as Spielberg's War of the Worlds. Remarkably, the film is set to begin shooting very soon in Vancouver and won't be wrapped until November. Rather than me babble on about how good the original movie helmed by the great Robert Wise is and how it SHOULD NEVER BE REMADE EVER, I've posted the trailer for you to see for yourselves below. If you haven't seen it, I encourage you to go out and give it a go... it's a perfect example of the turmoil and uncertainty of the future in the 1950's culture which ended up being a decade of some masterpieces of science fiction.
