Furious 7 Review: 15 Reasons It's The Best In The Series

3. Bada** Supporting Roles For Tony Jaa & Djimon Hounsou

Though the movie could have done more with Jason Statham as mentioned above, it does benefit from two highly entertaining supporting villain parts. Firstly, martial arts legend Tony Jaa plays lethal assassin Kiet, who becomes Brian's arch nemesis throughout the movie, and the pair have two fantastic fight sequences, culminating in one glorious moment in which Jaa surfs Walker down a flight of stairs using a door (yes, really). Of course, though it's tough to buy that Walker could ever defeat Jaa in real life, the eventual manner in which he dispatches him is deeply amusing (using a drum of cables to send him falling down an elevator shaft). It's great to see such a respected martial artist get a significant role in a Hollywood movie, and hopefully it's the first of many. Djimon Hounsou gets a more significant part as Jakande, another villain who intends to recover Ramsey's God's Eye program for his own means. Though he doesn't spend much time on the ground fighting, he's wonderfully menacing and does a good job tearing up the LA streets from his gunship at the end of the movie. Simply, it's just great to see this series attracting talented actors in even its supporting parts, a trend which will hopefully continue for Furious 8.
