Ghost In The Shell: 10 Big Talking Points From The Trailer

3. Live Action Anime Tends To Suck

Another worrying element about the film is that - by and large - live action anime tends to be awful. Dragonball: Evolution left scars that are still healing, and a quick glance at the genre unleashes other turkeys like Fist of the North Star, Blood: The Last Vampire, City Hunter, Devilman, The Guyver, Attack On Titan and countless others.

Obviously taking a medium based on larger than life characters and action, and trying to ground it in reality, is a tricky assignment. Ghost In The Shell stands a better chance than most, thanks to the rich source material. With a good script and a healthy budget, there’s no reason it should end up on the same list as the movies above.

Just like video game movies, live action anime could use a shot in the arm, and maybe this could be the one that breaks the cycle.
