Golden Globes 2019: 8 Ups & 7 Downs
4. The Kominsky Method Overperforms
Pretty much nobody expected Netflix's The Kominsky Method to do much business at the Globes: it was a show seen by few, scarcely promoted by Netflix and was basically just happy to be nominated...but then it started winning things.
First up, Michael Douglas scooped the Best Actor (Musical or Comedy) award, marking his third competitive win and inexplicably beating out first-time nominee Bill Hader for his stunning work on Barry.
Things got even weirder when the show went on to win the Best TV Series (Musical or Comedy) award, beating out Barry, The Good Place, Kidding and The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel.
To be clear - it's not that The Kominsky Method is a bad show by any means, but it scoring such unexpected victories against its decidedly more-acclaimed and better-respected competition speaks to the classic "white old man" awards show biases.
